Wang and Kibbe awarded $1.5 million to study nanoparticle strategy to prevent surgical complication

March 20, 2019

Andrew Wang, MD, Melina Kibbe, MD, and collaborators were awarded $1.5 million from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to study the use of nanoparticles to prevent a complication of surgery. “Post-surgical adhesions” occur after surgery when bands of tissue form between the abdominal tissue and organs, causing the normally slippery internal tissues and organs to stick together. These funds will support a preclinical investigation to use nanoparticles to form a barrier at sites of tissue injury to prevent adhesion formation.
